Description

In this premium video, Outdoor Photography Guide’s David Johnston demonstrates how budget photographers can achieve pro-like images with the new Focus Blur tool in Lightroom.

He demonstrates with his image of two elephants going head to head on the grasslands. The image is sharp, even the background. He applies the lens blur tool, which analyzes the foreground and background, and secludes the main subject, the elephants. The Visualize Depth graph shows David the separation. He scrolls the graph to select the focus point. Result? Only the elephants are in focus.

With other adjustment sliders, David can increase or decrease the blur field. Some areas near the elephants are less blurred, but with the Refine tool, he can select isolated areas to blur or refine. Using a brush tool, he corrects isolated areas. The Automask tool will also locate hard close-up edges.
