Photographing Light Rays in Redwoods
Paul ThomsonDescription
In this premium video, Outdoor Photography Guide’s Paul Thompson shows you how to photograph a woodlands image with striking light rays. In the California redwoods, Paul sets up his tripod on a foggy day.
He underexposes the image in order to capture the bright highlights. After capturing the photo, he consults the histogram to check on the exposure. He takes several shots of the same composition to insure proper exposure. In post production, he will bring up the shadows to avoid underexposure.
To avoid a blurry foreground, Paul suggests you use a high ISO in order to freeze the action of the wind-blown foliage. And always position the sunlight behind the trees to capture the beautiful light rays.
