Description

“In this premium video, Outdoor Photography Guide’s David Johnston compares a prime lens and a zoom lens. Which lens will best fit your photography style?

His subject is an autumn tree with colorful leaves. David chooses a 35mm prime lens with a 1.4 f stop capability. The drawback is that he has to move his camera to vary his shots, but the advantage is sharpness. He zones in on a leaf and captures the subtle oranges and reds. You can find prime lenses in all shapes and sizes.

Next, David selects a 20-40mm f 2.8 zoom lens. Zoom lenses are easier to operate, but they are not as fast as prime lenses. Zoom lenses can also collect moisture in the lens tube as you zoom back and forth. But generally, they have superb auto-focus tracking.
