Creating a Digital Sandwich
Tony SweetThe digital sandwich is ideal for architectural interiors. In this video, professional photographer and editor Tony Sweet takes you to Drayton Hall in Charleston, South Carolina and photographs an ornate staircase in HDR. He shows you how to shoot long exposures in available light to capture the complete tonal range. Then, in post-production, he demonstrates how to merge the HDR exposures into a digital sandwich.
In the editing suite, Tony layers his three HDR compositions into a single file and uses digital tools to enhance the sandwiched image including sharpening, color corrections, contrast, and spot retouching. The result? A beautiful image of historic Drayton Hall.
